The MBTA has announced that its full transportation plan for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be released on June 11, just two days before the first match at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. While details are still being finalized, the agency has already begun implementing several improvements to prepare for the influx of visitors expected during the tournament.
Planned upgrades include improved directional signage, additional staffing at stations, and expanded support services to help riders navigate the transit system. The agency also intends to deploy volunteers and staff throughout stations to assist visitors, including multilingual personnel and translation tools to help international travelers navigate the system.
Ticket sales for World Cup train service continue to increase, with more than 37,000 tickets sold as of late May. According to MBTA General Manager and CEO Phil Eng, the agency is preparing for the significant transportation demands of the 2026 FIFA World Cup while remaining focused on providing dependable service for daily riders.
